Can you rank using Facebook like button and Ping Kaching only?
Ranking using Social Media is something that is being debated about with no real clear answers. In this article I am not only going to prove to you that you can but also I am going to show you how to do it.
Everything talked about in this article will be related to just Google. Though, it is possible to rank using Social Media in the other search engines I am only going to focus on the largest search engine to save time.
For this test I have primarily excluded Twitter. I felt including Twitter would only further complicate the matter and cloud the results. If I were preforming a real SEO campaign I would use Facebook and Twitter in conjunction to further increase my results.
I also want to clear up that we have ran this test several times successfully. The example we will be using in this article is for the Ping Kaching website. Ping Kaching is still in Beta and we are not even for sale at this point. This means we actively don’t want to be showing up for search phrases yet. Which means we are de-optimized at the moment. We have a low number of back links to our total domain which means you should have even better results that we did in this test.
Setting the Stage.
Before you can begin using this trick you will need two things.
1. First you will need to install the Facebook Like button for your articles, (Not the Facebook Like button to your Fanpage.)
THIS:
NOT THIS:
If you need instructions on how to install the Facebook like button to articles then you can view a blog post and video I did on it nearly a year ago. You can find that here: http://www.michaelrroberts.com/blog/Facebook_Like
or
Head over to Fiverr.com and have someone there install the Facebook button for you for only $5. I found this user who had two positive ratings. FIVERR PROFILE
*I am in no way affiliated with the above mentioned person nor am I personally responsible if they hijack your site, steal all your money and take over your identity.
2. You will need an active Ping Kaching account.
If you don’t already have a Ping Kaching account here is a link to a video showing you how to sneak in and get an account before the software is even for sale: http://www.pingkaching.com/blog/sneak-in-early
Proof It’s possible to rank using Facebook like button and Ping Kaching only.
On March 17th, Ping Kaching released our Directories Newsletter blog post. This blog post received quite a bit of attention as Ping Kaching customers were very excited for this large update. The post managed to get an astounding 112 Facebook article Likes. The only other promotion we did to the page was ran it through the PK software it’s self and a single twitter tweet.
Within a few hours we had taken position number one…beating out a PR 4 URL with our PR 0 page!
Throughout the day there was a bit of a Google dane and the URL dropped down near the bottom of page one. However, the Facebook Fanpage it’s self managed to make an appearance in position 3. Again beating out some PR sites.
The next day to help anchor our position we did a small handful of blog comments and then spun our blog post and submitted it to just the top document sharing sites such as Scribd and Issuu. By the end of day two we had our set position of rank four. We have done no other promotions since that time and have sat in a steady position for almost a week now.
Note: We were already ranked using just the Facebook like button and Ping Kaching before doing the blog comments and submitting to a few document sites. We did these things just to help anchor the position and reduce any further Google dance. The total amount of anchoring work we did took less than one hour.
If we look at an analysis of Page 1 using Market Samurai on the very first day you can see some of the competitors the site had to beat out. There are PR 2’s, 4’s and even a PR 5 that we at one time had beat. Also you can notice that some of the URL’s we were competing against had thousands of back links pointing to the specific page. The keyword we choose to compete against was not just a simple low competition word. There are a few serious players to contend with. Currently from our data center were pulling from in North America we are ranked higher than Onewaytextlink.com which is a PR 4.
PR = Google’s Page Rank
BLP = Back Links to Page
BLD = Back Links to Domain
The Process.
So are you ready for your own rockstar results? In a few moments I will walk you through the exact steps on how you too can quickly dominate a keyword phrase.
So by this point you already secured your copy of Ping Kaching and added the Facebook Like button to your blog posts right? Good!
Now target a keyword phrase for your blog post. Be sure to do all the standard tricks when setting up the page. Use the All-In-One SEO Pack to write a good meta title and description using your keyword phrase. Edit the blog post URL so it contains your keyword. Then be sure to bold or italicize your keyword once or twice in the article it’s self. (Your very article content will determine how many Facebook Likes you receive. Product pages will never get the Facebook Likes good content will. This article should be full of good information that will naturally attract likes.)
Once your blog post is published immediately head over to Ping Kaching and submit that URL to the software. The goal is to get your content immediately noticed by the search engines. When you write a post you want the search engines to come running. The Social Bookmarking and RSS submission feature will ensure that your new post get’s noticed!
The second step involves harassing your real life friends and Facebook friends. Have a few people you know head over to your article and click that thumbs up button for Facebook. Through testing, we have noticed people are more likely to click that Like button if they see other people already have. This is the same with Youtube’s Thumbs Up. People are more willing to follow a trend. If they saw that other people have voted they are more inclined to vote. It’s just human nature.
The third step is to leverage your followers. Goto your Fanpage, Twitter profile and email list and let your followers know about your new content. If you produced quality information and have a few likes already established then in this phase you will see the likes pour in.
These above three steps should all happen within a short time frame. From the moment you publish your blog post to the final step should only be a few hours. It’s all about shocking the monkey and getting Google to spike your content straight to the top of the SERPs.
The final step is to help anchor your position. Through Ping Kaching you have completely automated STEP 1 of link building, but now you will need some more authority back links quickly to help protect you from the Google Dance. Ping Kaching becomes vital in this phase as well. We will be covering this step in a later article.
What if I don’t have a big list to leverage?
People who are new to their market may not have a list to leverage and have asked me if they can buy Facebook Likes.
The short answer is yes you can. You can use sites like Fiverr.com or Amazon’s Mturk to purchase Facebook Like’s. However, this is very grayhat if not a blackhat method. If you go down the route of purchasing Facebook Likes then you could find your page de-indexed by Google all together.
A popular SEO blog experimented with using purchased Facebook Likes and within just a few days his post had been de-indexed.
If you do decide you want to experiment with purchasing Facebook Likes then I would suggest you use Amazon’s Mturk service. You can obtain quite a few likes for a very cheap price. I would warn you not to go over board with how many you order. Try to keep it reasonable and you will still see amazing results.
Also be mindful of the difference between Facebook Article likes and Facebook Fanpage likes. The last thing you want to do is drive a bunch of people to Like your Fanpage who will then never interact with it! Facebook tracks how many interactions you have with your Fanpage and having a bunch of purchased Fanpage Likes will only hurt you in the long run!
Let’s get this article to rank for the keyword phrase: “rank using facebook like button”
For my previous test I did leverage Twitter slightly by making a post. I wish to run the test again with this article using ONLY PK and Facebook. Though I didn’t leverage Twitter very much I still want to remove it from the equation all together.
Please click the Facebook article Like at the bottom of this blog post. I am confident if you come back a day after reading this article we will be ranked on page 1 for the keyword phrase: “rank using facebook like button”.
Also, if you are a fan of the Ping Kaching software click the like button to our Fanpage

*UPDATE: Ping Kaching ranked #1 for the term “rank using facebook like” in under 30 minutes after our post and submission to Ping Kaching*

Intriguing. Were the others optimized for “directories submission software”?
@Dr. Michael Haley
I thought it was quite intriguing as well!
Yes the other post was optimized for “directories submission software”.
We could have just as easily dominated a more traffic word, but we specifically
chose that search phrase because it has some decent competition and very low traffic.
We don’t want traffic yet!
Stay tuned for even more awesome tests we have been preforming!
What was the number one factor in Ranking so quickly, the 25 likes or the submission or the 1421 banklinks to the website?
@Daniel Morel
For this very post I ranked well just because of Ping Kaching. Even my Yahoo Buzz profile was ranking well. (Yahoo Buzz is surprisingly one of the best social sites right now.)
For the post I talked about in the blog article it was primarily due to the Ping Kaching submission and Facebook Likes.
The 1,400 backlinks isn’t very many backlinks and those were pointed at the root domain.
Ping Kaching, through it’s directory submissions got me the majority of those backlinks.
It really is as simple as submitting to Ping Kaching to get the attention and then getting the facebook likes!
That is Google crack right now. Just be sure to use some URL specific backlinks to anchor your position!

having a large number of page views or visitors on your actual social media pages like facebook and twitter helps lift natural rank in google.
Great Work Guys. Keep Goin…………..
What no Eggggggggggslnt???
Thanks Roy!
FYI , you have the wording Contact us on the interface misspelled. Its Contat Us
Great article when does the new release come out?
@Allan Fine
Thanks for the heads up reguarding the mis spelling! We will get that fixed!
Version .24 of the software has a bit of delay waiting on our Twitter API key to be accepted. Probably another 7-9 days before it’s released.
The software will be going live in the first half of April!
Thanks Michael! I’m going to try it. See what happens?!
Hey Michael, how’s it going man!? Whew! I don’t know where to start, hmmmm…
Ok, I’ve seen this “Ranking With FB and Twitter” thing before but you know how it is, always hearing “Stop everything!… This is the latest greatest!.. bla bla bla…” So I’ve been pushing it aside coz I have a hard enough time staying focused as it is. BUT!!!
Now that I’ve seen you actually “Do It” and not just talk about it, (and coz I know you don’t spew crappy stuff), then it must be something to make room for.
So, please keep the cool useful info like this coming, 10-4!? (oops, sorry. I used to be a Truck Driver…. that slipped out)
Thanks man!

Hey, Michael! Great post. I hadn’t really considered using social media to rank any of my pages but after reading this I decided to try it. All I can say is wow!!! I tried this on an article I wrote about a day or so ago and after a couple hours I went from ranking #118 to #8!!!! That’s amazing after a few minutes of work. You’re the man!!!
I too have found the social media really pushing my sites up. I experimented too with blogs and articles using Ping Kaching submissions and had a blog on Squidoo indexed via Digg in Social Bookmarking and was indexed in 20 minutes. Superb. Sites with a Social Interaction are really knocking my stats also on a couple of sites. Its so exciting seeing the results and gotta say Ping Kaching is fantastic. Still waiting for the url to rss conversion though.
Sounds like a plan I will try using this technique and see how it goes.
